Current Status

  • Strong energy efficiency and education component.
  • Recycling dumpsters are located at every school and office in the district.
  • District currently recycles paper (including colored paper), chipboard, magazines, corrugated cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, and #1, 2, and 3 plastic containers.
  • Program also includes green waste, used oil, antifreeze, lead batteries, and waste paint thinner.
  • Environmental education efforts are strong but must be fully integrated into standards-based curriculum.

How Grant Funds Will Be Used

  • Identify and use exemplary curricular materials aligned to science and connected to integrated waste management activities.
  • Enhance support of environmental science clubs and service-learning.
  • Collaborate with Fresno Mayor’s Office staff for after-school programs.
  • Align standards-based instructional practices to on-site resource conservation.
