Covered Electronic Waste Recovery and Recycling Payment System

Approved Participating Collectors and Recyclers

CalRecycle in collaboration with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), receives and evaluates applications from prospective collectors and recyclers to participate in the Covered Electronic Waste Recovery and Recycling Payment System (payment system) provided by California's Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003, as amended, (Chapter 8.5, of Part 3 of Division 30 of the Public Resources Code, commencing with Section 42460, and Article 10.3, of Chapter 6.5 of Division 20 of the Health and Safety Code, commencing with Section 25214.9) and Title 14 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Division 7, Chapter 8.2, commencing with Section 18660.5).

CalRecycle provides a searchable directory that allows users to locate a recycling opportunity for certain electronic wastes and verify the current approval status of an organization that is participating in the payment system. Users can search by organization name, CEWID number, county, and collector/recycler status.

Important Note: This search tool is intended for use by individuals and organizations seeking recycling opportunities for covered electronic wastes. It can be used to verify the real-time approval status of system participants. It will also serve as a general locator of reuse and recycling opportunities for other electronic devices. You should contact any of the listed organizations to determine the details of their services and any potential charges before loading up your vehicle.

As CalRecycle, in consultation with DTSC, works to implement this important legislation, more information will be available through this website. Note that any guidance provided by CalRecycle should not substitute for careful reading of the original statutes or subsequent regulations. Interested parties are encouraged to check back often, or subscribe to an email newsletter to be kept apprised of developments and events.
