Search Tips for the CalRecycle Website

CalRecycle uses Google Custom Search to power its website search. This provides excellent search capabilities at a low cost. Using the search is easy--most of use Google search regularly! However, you may benefit from a few tips to help you narrow your searches on the CalRecycle website.

  1. Use multiple words. This will narrow your results to pages and documents that include ALL of the words (though not necessarily together). For example, if you are looking for a tire hauler form, use all three words instead of just "tire" or "form." If you are looking for RFA decision documents, search for RFA decision, not just RFA.
  2. Use quotes to search for an exact word or phrase. If you are certain the page or document you are looking for has an exact phrase, enclose it in quotes.
  3. Use the minus sign to exclude a word. For example, if you want compost, but not worm compost, use compost -worm.
  4. Use OR between words. If you want to search for pages that may have just one of several words, include OR (capitalized) between the words. Without the OR, your results would typically show only pages that match both terms.
