Local Enforcement Agency Correspondence Internet Enhancement Program for Solid Waste Local Enforcement Agencies |
Date: April 16, 1998 To: All Local Enforcement Agencies The California Integrated Waste Management Board would like to inform you of the LEA Internet Enhancement Program. CIWMB, like many organizations, has an extensive amount of information available via the Internet, and we are constantly considering alternatives for expanded use of this technology, such as automated distribution of LEA advisories and electronic filing of facility inspection reports. Obviously, the success of CIWMB's initiatives toward disseminating or collecting information via the Internet is dependent upon LEA's capability to access the Internet. The objective of the LEA Internet Enhancement Program is to facilitate the efforts of the LEAs in gaining access to the Internet and electronic mail (e-mail) communications. As a continuation of Partnership 2000, the LEA Internet Enhancement Program seeks to ensure that all LEAs have at least one computer system with full Internet access (e.g., World Wide Web), and personal e-mail addresses for each of their staff. Internet connectivity implies access to a wide variety of information such as that available on the CIWMB Web site, and e-mail capabilities provide direct communication among CIWMB and the LEAs. While many organizations already have Internet access and e-mail capabilities, some do not. The objectives of the LEA Internet Enhancement Program are:
You will find enclosed an "LEA Internet Enhancement Program Survey" questionnaire. This is a follow-up to a similar questionnaire you may have completed about a year ago. I encourage each LEA director to complete this questionnaire and return it in the business reply envelope enclosed for your convenience. Those LEAs interested in participating in the LEA Internet Enhancement Program should check the box at the bottom of the survey page and include the name of a contact person and telephone number for an initial consultation and needs assessment with CIWMB technical staff. This new CIWMB program is intended to ensure that solid waste LEAs have the necessary equipment, software and technical support to initiate higher levels of communication with the CIWMB and among themselves. I encourage each director who may have concerns about current or future levels of Internet connectivity to participate in the LEA Internet Enhancement Program. Also, you and your staff will have an opportunity for training and demonstrations of enhanced Internet connectivity when attending the August 19-21, 1998, Second Annual LEA/CIWMB Conference. Sincerely, Original signed by: Dorothy Rice Attachment: LEA Internet Enhancement Program Survey |
