Update on the Compostable Materials Handling Informal Regulations Development

To: Interested Parties, Compostable Materials Handling DRAFT Regulations

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) staff compiled and analyzed comments, suggestions and concerns raised at the July-August 2000 compostable organic materials workshops. Using information obtained at these workshops, staff prepared a revised set of draft regulations for review during this informal period. The revised regulations are posted on our web site at http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/Laws/Rulemaking/Archive/2003/CompMaterial/.

The draft regulations were distributed to an external working group for review during the month of December 2000 and were revised in early 2001. After bringing the draft regulations to the February 2001 Board meeting as a discussion item, the latest version of the draft regulations were formulated. Board staff brought an agenda item forward for the Board to discuss/consider the draft regulations at its April 24-25, 2001 meeting. Upon direction from the Board, staff will be seeking stakeholder input until the draft regulations are considered at the August 14-15, 2001 Board meeting.
