Discussion of Issues Concerning Use of the Herbicide Clopyralid and its Impact on Composting in California

This all LEA E-mail was sent on behalf of the LEA Support Services Branch of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) and Howard Levenson.

On March 6, 2002 the CIWMB will hear a discussion item regarding "Discussion Of Issues Concerning Use Of The Herbicide Clopyralid and its Impact on Composting in California" (Word 97, 82 KB) at its Agenda Briefing Workshop.

The Briefing Workshop will be held in the Coastal Hearing Room, on the 2nd Floor of the Cal/EPA building in Sacramento, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The first part of the meeting will be devoted to reviewing agenda items that are scheduled for the following week's Board meeting and should take approximately an hour. After that, the Board will take up the clopyralid item. Staff will make a short presentation (10 minutes) based on the item, after which the public will be able to provide testimony on this issue.

Please be advised that this is not an "action" item (i.e., the Board will not be considering formal action), but rather is a discussion item. Also, please understand that this is not a working group meeting, in the sense of people sitting around a table and hashing out solutions. Rather, it is an opportunity for Board Members, staff, and the public to become more acquainted with this issue and for Board Members to provide general direction to staff if they wish (for example, Members could ask staff to conduct more work on any particular aspects and return with a more formal item at a subsequent meeting). Thus, we urge you to be succinct, focus on major issues and concerns, and offer your suggestions. If you have lengthy, detailed comments, please feel free to provide them in writing to Board Members and staff. However, so that all interested members of the public can testify and so that Board Members can ask questions as desired, we suggest that you not provide lengthy, detailed oral testimony.
