Date: July 7, 2005

To: All Local Enforcement Agencies

This all LEA e-mail is being sent on behalf of the LEA Support Services Branch of the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

This is a friendly reminder to those of you returning from vacation -- please take a few minutes to complete the 2005/2006 LEA Training Needs Survey. Your input is extremely important and helps CIWMB training staff provide you with the training you want and need. Please help us by filling out the survey found at the link below. If you haven't responded yet, there's still time. The deadline is July 18th!

Since distributing the survey, CIWMB training staff developed ideas about offering a one-day GIS course, similar to the presentation given at the LEA/CIWMB Partnership Conference in May. Before we embark on designing the specifics of the course, we would like to hear from you on what you think it should include. Please take a few minutes to answer the GIS training questions below. Please respond by August 1, 2005.

(1) What is your current level of expertise with using GIS software?

  • No experience
  • Very little
  • Moderate
  • Extensive

(2) This class is proposed to be a one day course. Based on this proposed timeframe, would you like the course to be:

  • An introduction to GIS that includes an overview, software demo, and case study examples?
  • In-depth GIS course that includes hands-on training in a computer lab setting?
  • Other (please describe).

(3) What information and/or skill(s) would you like to receive by attending a GIS training course? Please be specific.

(4) What GIS software and version do you currently use/have available for use?

  • ESRI ArcView 3.2
  • ESRI Arc GIS 8.x
  • ESRI Arc GIS 9.x
  • Decade
  • Other (please specify)

(5) Would you be willing to assist by making a presentation at one or multiple training session(s)?

  • Yes
  • No

If yes, please describe what your segment would include.

(6) Can you recommend anyone else who should be contacted to assist in presenting GIS information?

  • Yes
  • No

If yes, please provide contact information and a description of the area/level of experience on the topic.

Thank you for your input and ideas.

Thank you,
Melissa Hoover-Hartwick
