2012 Eight-Hour Tier One Health and Safety Refresher Training (01-014-12)

Class Description

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offered six one-day training classes to local enforcement agencies (LEA) and CalRecycle staff who perform field activities regularly and have the potential to encounter known hazardous environments. The goal of this training was to emphasize the importance of safety practices and provide heightened awareness of potential hazards encountered in the field.

Class Objectives

  • Review causes of workplace injury and illness in the field
  • Learn the importance of working safely in your assigned field task
  • Maintain employee awareness of risks associated with hazards in the field
  • Review hazard assessment and prevention methods to prevent injury in the field
  • Attendees met the refresher training requirements per California Code of Regulations (CCR), General Industry Safety Orders, Title 8, Section 5192


Mr. Douglas S. Krause is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with over thirty-six years of experience in Occupational and environmental health and safety including eight years managing health and safety and environmental programs. He worked ten years in the California Occupational Safety and Health Program (Cal/OSHA) serving from early 1982 through the end of 1984 as Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief for Health. He then served for five years as Chief of Surveillance and Enforcement in Region II with the California EPA, Department of Toxic Substances Control. As the Principal of Krause & Associates, he provides environmental health, safety and industrial hygiene services to private and public organizations.

Mr. Lawrence S. Wong is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with more thirty-five years of experience in occupational and environmental health and safety. Mr. Wong has developed and presented numerous health and safety training programs. His training experience includes hazard recognition, monitoring and assessing potential exposures, developing and implementing site safety and health plans, and classroom discussion and hands-on use of personal protective equipment and respirators.
