Landfill Gas Monitoring Made Easy Workshop, August 2005

Goals of the Workshop:

  • Gain a basic understanding of California LFG monitoring standards
  • Develop an understanding of how different landfill gas monitors work
  • Compare results and techniques between attendees
  • Promotes proficiency in landfill gas (LFG) monitoring
  • Familiarizes trainees with accepted LFG monitoring techniques
  • Provides an understanding of LFG monitoring issues
  • Discusses state minimum standards using real world examples
  • Builds experience quickly

  • Introduction to LFG basics
  • Introduction to LFG instrument operation procedures
  • Operation of LFG monitors
  • Monitoring for LFG
  • Evaluating monitoring results
  • Hands-on monitoring in simulated field conditions
  • Discussion of state minimum standards for LFG

Summary:

Thirty-five people attended the training including representatives of solid waste facilities, local enforcement agency staff (LEAs), and CIWMB staff. Attendees were offered CEU credits for this workshop from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
