Recycling Market Development Zones (RMDZ)

2009 RMDZ Designation Cycle

At its March 2009 meeting, Board members directed staff to conduct a new Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) Designation Cycle in 2009 to fill up to seven (7) vacant RMDZ slots. The total number of authorized zones is 40; there are currently 33 designated zones.

Timeline

• Application period begins--July 1, 2009
• Application period ends--October 29, 2009

Even though the official application period doesn't begin until July 1st, the following application and supporting materials are being released early to ensure applicants have enough time to complete the California Environmental Quality Act review process before the application deadline. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to begin this process as soon as possible.

Regulations require that applicants submit their RMDZ application to the Board no later than 120 days after the designation cycle begins. Therefore, applications and supporting documents must be submitted to arrive no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 29, 2009. Please note that applications and supporting materials, except the cover sheet, may be submitted electronically in lieu of hard copy to mdelmage@calrecycle.ca.gov. Note: The cover sheet(s) with the original signature(s) must be submitted in hard copy to the address below to arrive no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 29, 2009--electronic signatures will not be accepted.

If an applicant cannot provide needed documentation electronically, applications can be delivered or can be mailed, to arrive no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 29, 2009, to the Joe Serna Jr. Cal/EPA Headquarters Building located at:
