Business Waste Reduction.
Waste is a measure of lost profit. Businesses purchase
supplies and materials, and those that aren't used
efficiently become waste. Businesses then pay to have the
waste collected and hauled away. Preventing waste saves
resources, money, and prevents pollution.
Buy Recycled Programs

policy to "buy green." The program assists procurement
officers of the Department of General Services (DGS), all
other State agencies, local governments, and private

1990, 46 of California's 530 jurisdictions reported C&D
tonnage as a separate category in the solid waste
stream. Their reported figures ranged from 0 to 55
percent, and averaged 28 percent.
Green Building Design and

use our resources efficiently while creating healthier
buildings for our workers. It provides cost savings to all
Californians through improved human health and productivity,
lower cost building operations, and resource efficiency—and
it moves us closer to a sustainable future.
CalRecycle's recycling market development goal is to
encourage market conditions in which secondary materials
generated in California are efficiently collected and recycled
into high quality, value-added products attractive to consumers.
Recycling Market Development Zone Program
Recycling-based businesses are the growth industry of the
future! The Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) program
is a partnership between local governments and CalRecycle, created to
provide incentives to businesses that use secondary
