In January of 2003, the Board awarded a $100,000 grant to West Cottonwood Junior High School under the Tire Track and Other Recreational Surfacing Grant Program. Cottonwood used the grant to resurface its track (see below). Approximately, 2,917 waste tires were diverted from the landfill.
