You've done all the work--now get the publicity you deserve. Here's information on awards, using waste reduction to attract and keep business clients, and sharing your success with your host city and the public.

Press Releases

A good place to start is by distributing a press release to your local media. Some free tips for creating a good release are available from:

Awards

Applying for an award is a great way to validate an outstanding waste diversion program. Review the list of awards below and also check with your local jurisdiction for locally sponsored award programs.

  • Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award: This annual program is the State of California's highest and most prestigious environmental honor. The program recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and contributions in conserving California's precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, and building public-private partnerships.
  • U.S. EPA National Environmental Performance Track: A government recognition program for facilities that have implemented high-quality environmental management systems. Members form a learning network that shares best practices, encourages continuous environmental improvement, fosters public outreach and community involvement, and promotes performance measurement. Current members include Grand Canyon and Grand Teton National Parks, San Antonio Mission, Xanterra Lodge at Mt. Rushmore, and the Colonial Acres Golf Club.
