Covered Electronic Waste Recovery and Recycling Payment System:
Approved Participating Collectors and Recyclers

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), in collaboration with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), receives and evaluates applications from prospective collectors and recyclers to participate in the Covered Electronic Waste Recovery and Recycling Payment System (payment system) provided by California's Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003, as amended, (Chapter 8.5, of Part 3 of Division 30 of the Public Resources Code, commencing with Section 42460, and Article 10.3, of Chapter 6.5 of Division 20 of the Health and Safety Code, commencing with Section 25214.9) and Title 14 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Division 7, Chapter 8.2, commencing with Section 18660.5).

CalRecycle provides a search tool that allows users to verify the current approval status of an organization that is participating in the payment system. Users can search by organization name, CEWID number, county, and collector/recycler status.

Important Note: This search tool is intended for use by organizations seeking to conduct business with each other within the context of the Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 system. It is to verify the real-time approval status of system participants. It is not intended as a general locator of reuse and recycling opportunities. If you are simply looking for facilities or organizations that accept electronic equipment for reuse or recycling, please visit the Electronic Product Management Directory.

As CalRecycle, in consultation with DTSC, works to implement this important legislation, more information will be available through this website. Note that any guidance provided by CalRecycle should not substitute for careful reading of the original statutes or subsequent regulations. Interested parties are encouraged to check back often, or subscribe to an e-mail newsletter to be kept apprised of developments and events.
