Reuse Organization Profiles
Reusables Depot at the Arcata Community Recycling Center (ARRC)
Overview
As part of the nonprofit Arcata Community Recycling Center (ACRC), the Reusables Depot accepts and sells used and leftover building materials, hardware, gardening supplies and household goods (except clothing).
The Depot also sells recycled paint from a local business that accepts old paint and mixes it to create new colors for resale.
History
The Reusables Depot has, in some form or another, been part of ACRC since its inception in 1971. With the help of a Reuse Assistance Grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board, ACRC has expanded its facility in order to house the wide variety of building materials.
Operations
The Reusables Depot employs two full-time and one part-time employee. Their indoor/outdoor site occupies about 5,000 square feet. The Reusables Depot is a branch of the ACRC and relies entirely on donations brought in by the community they serve. All proceeds from the sale of materials goes to ACRC and its various programs.
