Reuse Organization Profiles
Garbage Reincarnation, Inc. "Recycletown"
Overview
Garbage Reincarnation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that operates two reuse/recycling depots under contract with the Sonoma County Integrated Waste Management Department. Created in 1986 by Garbage Reincarnation, Inc. and located at the central landfill, Recycletown features a nostalgic "wild west" theme made almost entirely of salvaged building materials. Proceeds go towards community education programs including a free newsletter, publications, mentoring programs, workshops/exhibits, tours of Recycletown, coastal cleanups, and special event recycling. The annual "Scrapture" Contest features art, structures, and costumes, all made from junk by local artists and citizens.
