The City of Los Angeles, with 3.5 million people, is Californias largest city. The region generates 50 percent of the states total waste, and has the largest industrial base and retail market in the United States in terms of total employees, payroll, and number of establishments. The total economic output of the City of Los Angeles rivals all but the largest nations in the world. As such, it is a major manufacturing and transportation hub for the state and nation. The newly expanded Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) encompasses the entire City of Los Angeles.
Incentives
The City of Los Angeles offers a wide range of support mechanisms applicable to manufacturers that use secondary materials including tax incentives, low-interest financing, business assistance, and a 35 percent electricity discount for up to five years. Some of the financial incentives are Industrial Development Bonds, Small Business Fund, Community Financial Resource Center loan program, technical assistance from Valley Economic Development Corporations, Enterprise Zone incentives; and Revitalization Zone incentives.
Target Materials
The City of Los Angeles is targeting all 35 materials for which it has waste disposal and diversion information, including the four materials targeted prior to the zone expansion.
Infrastructure
The City of Los Angeles is a major manufacturing and transportation hub for the State and the nation. The city is served by freeways, major highways, rail lines, an international airport, and the Port of Los Angeles.
