Tools for Education/Outreach and Implementation of Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling

CalRecycle has developed a number of customizable materials to assist state agencies with education and outreach campaigns for California’s Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling (MORe) law, AB 1826 Chesbro (Chapter 727, Statutes of 2014). These include case studies, promotional tools, and a brochure. Several local jurisdictions have also provided examples of their promotional materials for other jurisdictions to use. We encourage agencies and satellite facilities to work with their local recycling coordinators and haulers for arranging programs at locations that may need them.

If you require special accommodation to access these materials pursuant to California accessibility requirements, please contact the Office of Public Affairs at (916) 341-6300.

To learn more about the organic waste thresholds and implementation timeline for state agencies, you can review the letter sent to all state agencies in August 2015. For more information on AB 1826, review selected FAQs that are included on the State Agency Waste Management Annual Report FAQ page. These and other FAQs about AB 1826 are also on the Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling FAQ page. Agencies will begin submitting the Waste Management Annual Report to CalRecycle on their AB 1826 mandated organics diversion programs beginning with the 2016 report due in May 2017.
