Purpose: The purpose of this initial workshop was to bring interested parties together with the representatives of the Climate Action Team Recycling & Waste Management (CAT R&WM) Subgroup. This subgroup, formerly named the Landfill Subgroup, expanded its focus to include all facets of waste management. The meeting provided an overview of the CAT R&WM Subgroup's responsibilities; discussed current proposed strategies; and discussed specific actions and/or measures for each strategy to achieve the emission reductions. Participants were also asked to provide their ideas for strategies the subgroup should consider.
A key objective of the meeting was to ensure that all interested stakeholders have an opportunity to participate throughout the process. This meeting began the discussion of potential approaches for greenhouse gas mitigation; identified additional stakeholders that should be contacted; and identified potential new concepts, strategies, actions, or measures to considered.
