The CIWMB (now known as the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, or CalRecycle) supported a variety of projects to encourage residents and professional landscapers to use resource-efficient landscaping practices to reduce green waste, conserve water, and minimize non-point source pollution.

For example, the City of Sacramento, California, partnered with other public and environmental agencies to conduct an educational outreach campaign directed at North Natomas residents to use landscape and home maintenance practices that would prevent contaminants from flowing into neighborhood stormwater and flood control detention basins.
