Maria West serves as deputy director of CalRecycle's Office of Public Affairs. As the department's communications  director, Ms. West manages media relations and public outreach efforts to help inform and educate California residents about issues including resource conservation, recycling, and waste reduction.

Ms. West joined CalRecycle in 2019. Previously, she served as an information officer in the Public Affairs Office at the California Department of Water Resources, where she managed Save Our Water, the state’s water conservation campaign. Prior to that, Ms. West worked as an analyst at the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Before serving in California government, Ms. West worked in the private sector as a manager, author, advertising writer, trainer, and marketing project manager.

Ms. West holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mills College in Oakland, California.
