Solid Waste Disposal and Codisposal Site Cleanup Program

Answers to the questions received prior to the grant application due dates will be posted at this site on August 1, 2011, November 1, 2011 and February 1, 2012.

Purpose: Assembly Bill 2136 (enacted October 1993) required the California Integrated Waste Management Board (now CalRecycle) to initiate the Solid Waste Disposal and Codisposal Site Cleanup Program (Program) for cleanup of solid waste sites and solid waste at codisposal sites where the responsible party either cannot be identified or is unwilling or unable to pay for timely remediation and where cleanup is needed to protect public health and safety and/or the environment. Under the Program, local governments can finance a wide range of remediation projects. There are three different funding mechanisms available:

All grants are awarded on a competitive basis and are subject to the availability of funds.
